NASCAR tickets, lunch with the mayor among incentives to build a home in Jackson

JACKSON, MI — New homebuyers in Jackson won’t just receive down payment assistance, they could also get NASCAR tickets, a Jackson YMCA membership and other experiences.

During the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce’s State of the Community 2026 event, City Manager Jonathan Greene announced, “Build in Jackson,” a new talent attraction initiative that is layered on top of the city’s 100 Homes program.

The program is a collaborative effort between the city of Jackson, the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Accelerate Jackson County, Jackson Community Foundation, Experience Jackson and Michigan Works! Southeast.

Qualified participants could receive $40,000–$60,000 in down payment assistance toward newly constructed homes through the 100 Homes program.

The program provides up to  $50,000 in financial support for qualified buyers. Applicants can also apply for an additional $10,000 in down payment assistance through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Selected participants will also receive a curated package of professional, recreational and community experiences. According to a flyer, in the first year in the program, people will receive:

  •     Choice of bicycle or kayak ($1,000 credit)

  •     Two NASCAR race tickets

  •     One-year Jackson YMCA membership

  •     One-year Ella Sharp Park Golf Course membership

  •     Dinner with a state representative

  •     Lunch with the mayor or city manager

  •     Experience Jackson entertainment package

To qualify, applicants must not exceed 120% of the Area Median Income, obtain a mortgage approval, commit to living in the home and be part of Jackson’s workforce. For a single-person family in Jackson, 120% of the area median income for is $70,800.

“Programs like Build in Jackson show what happens when organizations across our community work together toward a shared outcome,” Greene said. “Jackson’s future depends on partnerships that look beyond boundaries and focus on solutions. When we collaborate, we create opportunities that are stronger and more sustainable than anything we could accomplish alone.”
