Over the last year, the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, together with partners Accelerate Jackson County, Experience Jackson, the Jackson Community Foundation, City of Jackson, Jackson County and numerous private investments have laid the foundation for Drive Jackson, a bold 20-year vision plan for the County.
The plan was formally unveiled today at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting, Victory Lap, exactly one year after the announcement of the vision planning initiative.
Community input was essential in making this vision a reality. With nearly 6,000 pieces of feedback from over 1,300 residents, local government and businesses through county-wide meetings, pop-up events and online surveys, a 24-person Key Leadership Committee and stakeholders worked to develop the plan, resulting in nearly 70 pages of vision, including 4 goal categories and 54 focus areas to align Jackson County for the next two decades.
The four main goal areas of the plan include the following:
Goal A: Improve Quality of Place and Identity
Goal B: Invest in Education and Learning
Goal C: Strengthen Housing and Economic Vitality
Goal D: Foster a Safe and Healthy Community
“The completion of Drive Jackson proves that our community’s future is in our own hands. By aligning our goals—from economic vitality to quality of place—we are effectively rewriting our story. We are moving past old projections of decline and stepping into a new era of prosperity,” said Ryan Tarrant, President and CEO, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Experience Jackson. “We invite every individual and organization to engage with this plan and help us invest in the quality of life, education, housing and health that will make Jackson County a premier destination to live, work and play.”
In addition to the launch of the Drive Jackson Vision Plan, the development of a Drive Jackson Vision Council was announced. The council is a cross-sector leadership body created to guide and implement the plan. Serving as the plan’s long-term accountability engine, the Council will monitor progress, align partners around shared goals, and help remove barriers to building a prosperous and resilient Jackson by 2045.
“Including each segment of the community was important in the planning and research process, and even more so in the implementation moving forward,” said Rachel Buchanan, VP of Marketing & Communications, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Experience Jackson. “The plan is not only community-led but offers the opportunity for each resident to see themselves in part of the plan”.
The full plan, along with an opportunity for residents to opt in to communication updates is now live at www.drivejacksoncounty.com.
